“Why still speak of the real and the virtual, the material and immaterial? Here these categories are not in opposition, or in some metaphysical disagreement, but more in an electroliquid aggregation, enforcing each other, as in a two part adhesive.”
Lars Spuybroek, [1998] Motor Geometry, Architectural Design, Vol 68 No 5/6, p5CHOSEN CONCEPTS:
- light and ephemeral and continually changing with different situations of perception
- create reflections of layered spaces with unclear boundaries
- relation between the inside and outside
REWORDED CONCEPT // ELECTROLIQUID AGGREGATION
'With different situations of perception, the relationship between the inside and outside is ephemeral and dynamic. Lightness reflects the ambiguous nature of boundaries within the layered spaces.'
MATERIAL CHOICE//
For the organic shape, I decided to go ahead and choose aluminium mesh to support the light and clean feel to the design. I also wanted the shape to subtly reflect natural light off it, and at night, when there are artificial ground lights, to help pick up the silhouette of the shape.
And for the base, I decided to contrast the top with have a strong robust structure such as reinforced concrete and polished plaster. Just so that it can ground itself and have a strong presence in the Spotspark.
